Denon used the occasion of this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas to put some meat on the bones of information available on its mouthwatering new ultra-high-end X Series of AV components. Here’s what they had to say in (more or less) their own words…
”At the heart of the X Series system is the AVP-1x, an audio control centre / processor that incorporates a separate and dedicated Video Pre-amplifier. The AVP control centre is fed audio and video signals by the new DVD-1x universal disc transport, and the system is powered by an all-new 7-channel digital power amplifier, the POA-1x.
An Integrated, ‘No-Compromise’ Solution
Denon's high-end separate system becomes an inter-connected, complete solution, utilising the latest digital transmission technology from disc transport to pre-amplifier to power-amplifier. The new technologies that Denon is developing for these AV separates will trickle down to other components in Denon audio/video product line-up in the near future.
’State-of-the-Art’ Digital Signal Transfer
To transfer audio signals between components with the utmost in transparency and speed, Denon has developed a unique digital transmission technology known as Denon Link. This digitally-balanced transfer technology permits jitter-less data transfer and dramatically lowered noise. In addition to Denon Link, the new components will include FireWire for audio and both HDMI and DVI digital video
Advanced DSP for Versatility and Accuracy
Denon is now developing the next generation of Dynamic Discrete Surround Circuit (DDSC) DSP technology, which combines versatile surround decoding and processing with the highest level of accuracy. This advanced DDSC will also expand upon Denon's use of the highest quality digital circuitry available, to provide the ultimate in multi-channel performance.
Digital From End to End
To accurately read and transfer the contents on digital optical discs, Denon has developed a new disc transport mechanism for the DVD-1x, with massive construction that has been specially designed to suppress vibration. The DVD-1x will feature this new mechanism, and can output DVD Video and Audio, SACD and standard CD as high quality digital audio and video signals to the AVP-1x for decoding and processing. For the last stage of the digital audio transmission, Denon is developing the finest quality multi-channel digital amplifier in the new POA-1x. All digital audio signals are directly input to the digital amplifier stage, which provides for the highest quality audio reproduction.
Upgradability and Availability
Denon has been designing its new flagship series for future upgradeability and expansion. As with all Denon products, these components will be released when all aspects of the product meet Denon's own high standards of performance, sound and picture quality, ease of use and reliability.
Other goodies!
* Universal DVD, DVD-A, SACD, CD
* HDMI, HDCP, DVI, Firewire, Denon Link and more
* Progressive scan, line quadrupling, video-scaling etc etc
The estimated release date for the AVP-1x processor, DVD-1x universal transport and POA-1x digital multi-channel power amplifier is late second half of 2004, with the total cost likely to be in the region of £25,000
