Uit de FAQ aldaar:
I have heard there are 2 versions of the The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring coming to VHS and DVD. Is this true?
Yes. In August, the movie that you experienced in theaters will be available on VHS and DVD. The DVD will be a 2-disc set with the movie plus over two hours of extra content, including programs on the making-of the movie, featurettes that explore the characters and locations of Middle-earth, the music video for Enya's song "May It Be" and theatrical trailers and TV spots. In addition, there will be an exclusive behind-the-scenes preview for the next movie in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Two Towers. Later this year, there will be a "Special Extended Edition" of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring on DVD and VHS. This Special Extended Edition will be a unique version of the film with 30 minutes of additional footage. The DVD will also have 2 discs of original extra content that will include documentaries and featurettes, commentaries, storyboards, and more that delves deep into how the fictional Middle-earth came to life in the movie.
Why aren’t both versions coming out on video at the same time?
August is the earliest date that the DVD and VHS would be ready. However, it takes much longer to finish and incorporate the 30 minutes of additional footage into the Special Extended Edition in addition to the bonus features.
When will I find out more about the bonus material on the Special Extended DVD Edition?
Peter Jackson and the DVD development team are working on it right now, so all of the bonus material is still "a work in progress". There will be a preview of the Special Extended DVD Edition on The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring DVD in August. Also, check back to lordoftherings.net often for the latest updates on the video releases for The Lord of the Rings.
Wordt dus nog ff de tanden op elkaar na de eerste release ;).
