On 24th July 2007, two of director John Woo’s legendary action classics – Hard Boiled and Last Hurrah for Chivalry – will be released on Region 1 DVD by The Weinstein Company and Genius Products under the Dragon Dynasty banner. Famous for extraordinary action in legendary sequences such as the opening tea-house bust and the explosive warehouse betrayal, Hard Boiled also features a rampaging thirty-minute final showdown. Teaming international action icons Chow Yun-Fat and Tony Leung, Hard Boiled maintains a deft balance between its stunning gunfights and its tortured emotional core. Hearkening back to a Golden Age of epic martial arts cinema, the wuxia classic Last Hurrah for Chivalry showcases the director’s eye for action, as well as the deeply emotional character motivations that would become a staple in his later films.

Described as “the definitive version of a true genre masterpiece”, the Hard Boiled two-disc Ultimate Edition comes fully-loaded with special features – including interviews with director John Woo and producer Terence Chang, a Hard Boiled location guide, and more (see details below) – and will be available for the suggested retail price of $24.95. Hard Boiled - dvdbeaver review (http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDCompare5/hardboiled.htm)

Dragon Dynasty - Region 1 - NTSC - July 07': the image of the new Dragon Dynasty can't come close to the English-unfriendly TF1 but it looks fairly unmanipulated with some scattered digital noise. Image quality it is probably most similar to the PAL Tartan Extreme edition. Audio sounded excellent to my ear - it offers the original mono plus 5.1, DTS upgrades and even a 5.1 English DUB. Subs are available in English and English for the hearing impaired.NOTE:the Dragon Dynasty subtitles are really DUB-titles and we therefore dismiss this recommendation.
