Story Synopsis:
Not only has he taken the lead from top Formula One racer Beau Brandenberg (Schweiger), up-and-coming rookie Jimmy Bly (Pardue) has a face that sponsors only dream about. But Jimmy is unfocused. Driven to regain his lead in the racing world, Brandenberg shuns his gorgeous girlfriend, Sophia (Warren), to concentrate on beating Bly to the checkered flag at the Chicago Motor Speedway. Under intense pressure from many&owner Carl Henry (Reynolds), promoter brother DeMille (Leonard), and assigned mentor Joe Tanto (Stallone)&Bly turns his attentions towards Sophia, who is happy to give Beau some vengeful heartache. Tires will blow in this action-packed racing drama written by Sylvester Stallone. (Suzanne Hodges)

DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 2.40:1 DVD exhibits excellent image quality. The picture is sharp and finely detailed, with excellent contrast and shadow delineation. Colors are absolutely eye-popping, with bold reds, rich blues, and vibrant greens that come close to oversaturation at times, but never cross the line. Fleshtones appear naturally balanced and blacks are deep and solid. There is a trace of edge enhancement detected at times, but nothing that is terribly obtrusive. On occasion, finer details shimmer slightly, but again, nothing that takes away from the excellent image quality. Overall, the picture is solid and should surely please. (Suzanne Hodges)

Soundtrack:
The Dolby® Digital 5.1-channel discrete soundtrack is awesome, delivering a soundfield that completely immerses and fills the listening space. The music consists of a rockin’ music score that penetrates the soundstage with a solid low-end foundation, and as well has been nicely recorded. Fidelity is excellent and certainly reflective of the state-of-the-art. The opening race sequence pretty much sums up the impressive sound design and dimensional creativity for this soundtrack. The split surrounds are aggressively engaged, of course, but also are utilized effectively in the creation of various soundfield perspectives, such as the ambient crowd during a race, and the artistic synthesis of emotional tension that is experienced by a driver. The use of back surround decoding will certainly result in an enhancement of the spatial experience behind you, especially with the high-speed chase in Chapter 18. The sense of expansion all around you is very impressive throughout. The low-end is certainly powerful and penetrating at times, with aggressive .1 LFE utilization and sub-25 Hz extension in all channels. And of course, there’s an abundance of directional panning for the cars on the racetrack. While this really isn’t new (having been used to great effect in Days Of Thunder), the experience of being immersed in a soundfield with the sounds of cars circling around is nonetheless exciting to experience. Another very noteworthy aspect is the rendering of the sounds of the roaring, sometimes menacing engines sounds at very high RPMs, a testament to the creativity in acquiring and crafting them. Last but not least, dialogue is reproduced with natural-sounding voices and quite effective spatial integration. This soundtrack is an absolute winner, delivering excellent surround sound and a full-throttle listening experience that is sure to greatly impress all home theatre fans. (Perry Sun)

Groeten,
Hein
