Matthew Broderick to reprise his most famous role as Ferris Bueller makes a comeback... and this time he's ditching work

Those of us of a certain age will remember the cheeky-faced young man who burst onto our screens and encouraged us all to ditch school for the day.

Now, almost three decades on, that irresistible truant Ferris Bueller, the sausage king of Chicago, is back - and this time he's taking a day off work.

Matthew Broderick is set to reprise his most famous role after a ten-second clip was posted on YouTube, showing the actor, now 49, acting a famous line from the 1986 film - with a 2012 twist.

Scroll down for the teaser and a trailer of the original film...

He's back! Matthew Broderick could be set to reprise his most
famous role as Ferris Bueller after a teaser clip was posted
online - all will be revealed during the Super Bowl next month.

The trailer shows Broderick in a fluffy white bath robe, flinging open the curtains of his hotel room and looking into the camera.

He then declares: 'How can I handle work on a day like today?" before the date of February 5 flashes up as Yello's Oh Yeah starts up in the background, the song from the original movie soundtrack.

This suggests that all will be revealed during this year's Super Bowl, which takes place on February 5 and could be that Broderick has decided to step into Bueller's shoes once again.

The truant: Broderick as Ferris Bueller sitting in his bedroom
in a scene from the 1986 film.

The quick scene is reminiscent of one from the original film when Broderick, who was 24 at the time, looks at the camera and says, 'How can I possibly be expected to handle school on a day like this?' before shots of a sunny blue sky appears.

Fans have already been speculating what will be revealed on February 5, and asking whether Broderick will be full reprising the role and will we see the return of Bueller's girlfriend Sloane Peterson and his best friend Cameron Frye.

Cultured: Broderick with Mia Sara, who played Sloane, and
Alan Ruck as Cameron in a museum scene as the trio run around Chicago.

The film was released in 1986 and was directed by John Hughes, who was one of the biggest directors of the decade, bringing us films that became classics such as The Breakfast Club, Pretty In Pink and Weird Science.

It starred Broderick as the film's protagonist as well as Mia Sara, now 44, who played the beautiful Sloane and Alan Ruck, now 55, as the hapless Cameron.

It became the top grossing film of the year and also starred Jeffrey Jones as Ed Rooney, the school principal.

Aftermath: Fans will be wanting to know what happened to the
trio - and the fallout of them destroying Cameron's father's
beloved Ferrari.

In 2010, Broderick and Ruck, paying tribute to Hughes who died the previous year, and both spoke about their thoughts about doing a sequel.
Speaking to Vanity Fair, Broderick said: 'We thought about a sequel to Ferris Bueller, where he'd be in college or at his first job, and the same kind of things would happen again.

But neither of us found a very exciting hook to that. The movie is about a singular time in your life.

'Ferris Bueller is about the week before you leave school, it's about the end of school - in some way, it doesn't have a sequel.

It's a little moment and it's a lightning flash in your life.'

Keeping quiet: Broderick, seen here with actress wife
Sarah Jessica Parker last night in New York, hasn't revealed
anything about what's in store for grown-up Ferris

Ruck added: 'I used to think why don't they wait until Matthew and I are in our seventies and do Ferris Bueller Returns and have Cameron be in a nursing home.

'He doesn't really need to be there, but he just decided his life is over, so he committed himself to a nursing home. And Ferris comes and breaks him out. And they go to, like, a titty bar and all this ridiculous stuff happens.

And then, at the end of the movie, Cameron dies.'
