Tremendous news to finally report to you all: Seinfeld is finally being prepared for DVD release! According to the latest issue of Daily Variety's "DVD Exclusive" magazine (which I have sitting before me right now), series co-creator & star Jerry Seinfeld states that he is in the process of creating supplements and digging up archival materials for upcoming Seinfeld disc releases. There's no official word yet from Sony Pictures or Columbia Home Entertainment just when exactly the series will finally make its DVD debut (although rumor is either by the end of the year or the first half of 2004). Possibilities for additional bonus materials mentioned in the article include episodic commentaries and outtakes.

Ik verwacht per seizoen (op 1 en 2 na dan aangezien die beide erg kort zijn) en waarschijnlijk voor iets meer dan €10 per DVD (dus voor een 4DVD iets meer dan €40 schat ik, zo rond de €45).

Na al die jaren (Ok, zolang bestaat de DVD nog niet, maar toch) eindelijk de moeder van alle sitcoms op schijf. Maakt me niks uit hoe die uitkomt, maar de volledige serie is van mij op de dag dat ie uitkomt!

Ik heb zo'n 30 afleveringen op video staan.....en het verveelt nooit!

) stata er een heel stuk over illegale dvd's/nep dvd's in omloop of die gaan komen, en dat er voor zover ik weer nog geene chte release gaat komen.

A number of people have asked me recently about some web sites that are selling complete Seinfeld DVD sets, wondering if it is the official DVD release. I have seen a number of similar offers, and they are homemade DVD sets, not the official DVD release. In the past, I saw a lot of VCD sets offered for sale on eBay and other web sites. Now, with DVD burners becoming more affordable, homemade DVD sets are becoming more prevalent. So, should you buy them? That is up to you - but here are some things to think about: 1) There is no way to know how good the video quality will be. At best it will be VHS quality, at worst it will be the quality of videos downloads - it certainly won't be DVD quality video. 2) No special features. The official DVD will certainly include special features, outakes, etc. - if you are a true Seinfeld fan, you're proabably going to buy the official DVD anyways. 3) You can bet there is no money back guarantee, and some of the prices being asked are significant.

Personally, I am going to wait for the official DVD release. There have been some rumors that they are working on it, but nothing official yet.

Seinfeld prepping Seinfeld

The Seinfeld TV series is finally being prepared for a DVD release, according to co-creator/star Jerry Seinfeld. In the May issue of VB sister publication DVD Exclusive (formerly DVD Premiers), Seinfeld says he is helping to create interviews and commentaries and dig up the annual season-ending gag reels that could be included as extras. Seinfeld will be on The Tonight Show Starring Jay Leno, On the Record With Bob Costas, and Live With Regis and Kelly May 14-19 to promote the Miramax DVD of his theatrical documentary Comedian, which he produced and loaded with extras. He said the decision and timing of the Seinfeld series on DVD is in the hands of Columbia parent Sony Pictures, which owns distribution rights. Sources at Sony and CTHE said it's not a question of if it will come out, but when.

Ach, ik heb liever dat ze het in één keer goed doen. Niets is zo vervelend als heel lang wachten op een release, om er vervolgens achter te komen dat de dvd niet goed in elkaar zit.

En bovendien moet ik er wel even voor sparen waarschijnlijk.

Seinfeld op DVD...

Het maakt me serieus niet veel uit hoeveel die box gaat kosten.
Dit is voor mij een van de (misschien wel beste) beste komedies die ooit gemaakt zijn, (naast Falwty Towers uiteraard, maar die heb ik al op DVD).

Ik ben al heel lang aan het wachten op deze uitgave, ook al heb ik alle afleveringen al gezien... Het is zo ontzettend knap gemaakt.
De verhaallijnen van de vier hoofdpersonen komen uiteindelijk briljant weer bij elkaar na elke aflevering.

Dus kom maar op met die box!

En hier nog iemand die niet uitgepraat raakt over Seinfeld. Beste comedy ooit gemaakt....de dag dat ie uitkomt kan niet snel genoeg komen.

Ik heb thuis alle afleveringen als vcd maar de dag dat Seinfeld op dvd uitkomt heb ik de box in huis

'Vroeger' was ik wat meer into Friends maar ik ben er ondertussen wel achter dat er maar 1 king of sitcoms is, Seinfeld!

Yes... you read that right. Three of the cast of TV's Seinfeld have declined to participate in the production of the DVD release of the series, because they're not being offered a share in sales of the discs. Jason Alexander, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Michael Richards were offered recording fees only, and so have jointly decided to boycott the production. The DVD is being produced by Castle Rock for distribution by Columbia TriStar, however due to complicated ownership of the show, Time Warner, Columbia TriStar Television, Castle Rock, Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David will all take profits from the DVD release. Frankly, we can't blame these three for feeling a little put off. Complicated ownership or not, the sales of old TV shows on DVD is arguably the fastest growing segment of the market right now. A lot of other people are going to make money on this... why shouldn't all of the featured cast share in that? Reportedly, Jerry Seinfeld is hoping to talk with them next year, to convince them to participate. You can bet, however, they'll be a little skeptical given that Jerry's already got a nice piece of the pie lined up. Here's a link to more on this at CNN and the New York Times (requires registration). Seinfeld: The Complete First Season is being tentatively planned for release in December of 2004. There's no word on how this boycott will affect that schedule, but we'd certainly hope that Castle Rock doesn't decided to just push ahead without these three.
