Have you grown tired of bad TV news? And by bad TV news, I mean bad news about television shows. Bad "TV news" is redundant.
Well, get ready for some good news. No wait, get ready for some great news. No, great doesn't really describe it. Here is some grantasticularly wondergasmiclicious news! (And my 12th grade English teacher said I'd never amount to anything as a writer.)
Comedy Central has ordered all brand new episodes of Futurama, and the show has officially gone back into production.
An insider told Collider.com that the network has given the series an order for 13 additional episodes to air now that the network has run through all of the series' original episodes and the four full-length DVD movies. This news has sparked rumors that production has officially started again on the series and casting is underway.
It's not just good news for Futurama fans, even though the fans are slipping into grinning comas and twitching with joy over the news. And who can blame them? It's one of the few comedy series that just seems to get better and better the longer its run gets. It's the bizarro According to Jim.
It's also good news to every show that has been cancelled before its time. Matt Groening, David X. Cohen and company have proved that no show can truly die just because a single-minded network doesn't have the patience to let it develop and expand. Their dedication to the show and its fans is truly astounding, and if new episodes do make it to Comedy Central's doorstep, disappointed fanboys across the universe will have one less thing in life to be disappointed about.
Wook wook wook wook wook...
Hallelujah!

Bender is back baby, bite my shiny metal ass

Talks between Fox TV, cast members break down
By MICHAEL SCHNEIDER
When “Futurama” returns to TV next year, it may be without the show’s original voice cast.Talks have broken down between 20th Century Fox TV and stars Billy West, Katey Sagal, John DiMaggio, Maurice LaMarche and Tress MacNeille over how much they should be paid to take part in the show.
The studio announced last month that it would produce 26 new episodes of “Futurama,” with Comedy Central onboard to begin airing the new episodes in mid-2010. As part of the announcement, the show’s producers said stars including West, Sagal and DiMaggio had all signed on to return.
Turns out that wasn’t true.
The stars had all expressed interest in returning. But with the budget for “Futurama” dramatically slashed, the salary offers came in well below what the thesps were asking -- believed to be around $75,000 per episode. (It was not clear what 20th was offering. Calls to the voice stars’ reps were not immediately returned.)
As a result, 20th has put out a casting call to find replacement voice actors for the show. According to insiders, a deal could eventually be struck that brings the original voice actors back -- but for now, the studio said it’s serious about finding replacements.
It’s not the first time 20th has gone that route during a tough negotiation on one of its toons. The studio previously threatened to replace the voice talent on “The Simpsons” when it couldn’t come to a deal with its stars. Casting feelers for replacements were even sent out, but a deal was eventually struck with the stars.
The situation is different with “Futurama,” as 20th and Comedy Central have been looking to slash the budget on “Futurama” to make it financially viable for a cable run. Yet there’s also still a possibility -- and a window built in -- for “Futurama” to run first on a broadcast network (mostly likely Fox).
With a smaller budget, the producers are already adjusting to a smaller writing staff and a shorter delivery schedule.
Created by Matt Groening and David X. Cohen, “Futurama” originally aired on Fox from 1999 to 2003. The success of the show’s repeats on DVD and cable, as well as a series of firstrun DVD releases, led to the decision to revive “Futurama.”
“We love the ‘Futurama’ voice performers and absolutely wanted to use them, but unfortunately, we could not meet their salary demands,” 20th Century Fox TV said in a statement. “While replacing these talented actors will be difficult, the show must go on. We are confident that we will find terrific new performers to give voice to Matt and David’s brilliantly subversive characters.”
Good news everyone! We'll revive the show but without the original actors!

UPDATED: The fans can finally rest easy.
by IGN TV
US, July 31, 2009 - Rejoice! Reports are coming in that the cast of Futurama is returning! The Star is reporting that the cast has signed new deals with 20th Century Fox already. All of this comes hot on the heels of some nail-biting salary negotiations and a "no show" for the voice cast during the San Diego Comic-Con panel last weekend.
We contacted 20th Century Fox this afternoon for confirmation on the stories coming in and while it seems The Star might have been a bit premature saying the deals are done, what we hear is also very optimistic. 20th informed us that voice actor Maurice LaMarche ("Kif Kroker"/Additional Voices) posted that he would be returning on his Facebook page, and that deals with the rest of the cast are imminent and will hopefully be finalized by the end of the day.
At Comic-Con this past weekend, IGN TV spoke to John DiMaggio ("Bender") about the situation and he told us he was hopeful a deal would be made. Luckily, it looks like his hopes – and the fans – have paid off.
Update: According to sources at 20th Century Fox, Billy West and John DiMaggio have not yet signed, but are close. However, Katey Sagal, Maurice LaMarche and Tress MacNeille are reportedly confirmed to have signed.
Update 2: And now we're completely in the clear! We just got this word from 20th Century Fox: "Just wanted you to know that we now have deals with the entire Futurama voice cast to return: John DiMaggio, Maurice LaMarche, Billy West, Tress MacNeille and Katey Sagal."
Futurama creators Matt Groening and David X. Cohen released this statement: "We are thrilled to have our incredible cast back. The call has already gone out to the animators to put the mouths back on the characters."
Who wants to bet there is at least one reference to all of this madness in an upcoming episode?
"Good news, everyone" if you ask me
