When the Star Wars trilogy arrives on DVD on September 21, the digitally remastered and restored films will be accompanied by over 10 hours of bonus material that goes inside the making of these classic movies.
Each film resides on its own disc, with sharp, pristene imagery restored and remastered by Lowry Digital Images, and the rich sound experience of the saga presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround EX. The films also include new commentary tracks, featuring insights from George Lucas, director Irvin Kershner, actress Carrie Fisher, sound designer Ben Burtt, and Industrial Light & Magic's Dennis Muren.

The fourth disc is packed with bonus material, the most notable being Empire of Dreams: The Story of the Star Wars Trilogy. This two-and-a-half hour documentary traces the evolution of the saga, from a low-budget labor-of-love space saga to the movie phenomenon that defied the odds and reinvented the rules.

This comprehensive documentary features all new interviews with George Lucas and more than 40 members of the cast and crew from the original trilogy, as well as a host of filmmakers and media personalities. Empire of Dreams includes some never-before-seen behind-the-scenes footage from the making of the three films.

Episode III Behind the Scenes Preview: The Return of Darth Vader: Finally, Star Wars: Episode III will reveal just how Anakin Skywalker became Darth Vader, the most iconic villain in film history. In this exclusive preview, George Lucas discusses Anakin's descent, with a first look at the new Vader costume forged for Episode III. Also, experience how Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor have prepared for the epic lightsaber battle that has been anticipated for more than two decades: the climactic showdown between Anakin and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Het is jammer dat er niet meer bestaande docu's op de DVD's worden gezet. Gaan ze een preview van een videogame erop zetten...
Heb net toevallig naar een aantal docu's gekeken uit mn net aangeschafte Executor box gekeken. Zeer boeiend en interessant.

Buiten het feit dat het misschien niet kan moet ik zeggen dat het wel mooi gedaan is, als je alleen het eerste plaatje zou kennen dan zou je niet weten dat het ooit anders is geweest.

Ik heb er eerder al een gepost (geen idee welke thread) van de Hologram scene uit ESB; daar zit nu Ian McDiarmid in ipv de vrouw!! die in ESB het hologram speelde (met gedubde stem)

Ik zeg dit als die-hard StarWars fan (al 21 jaar) zijnde:

Ik zie t liefst de oude versie.
Ik vind het wél mooi dat het beeld nu scherper en helderder is, maar t liefst zonder de extra scenes.

Wat ik OOK vind is dat we zonder Lucas deze films nooit hadden gehad. Het is ZIJN film en ZIJN idee.

Het is zijn bezit en van mij mag hij er mee doen wat hij wil. Als hij vind dat de films zo beter worden in zijn ogen dan heeft hij alle recht.

Sluit ik me helemaal bij aan. Maar het blijft jammer dat we straks op DVD niet kunnen kiezen tussen de verschillende versies.

Lucas heeft met Ep I & II shots die helemaal gecreerd zijn met de computer. Shots met tientallen vliegtuigen, duizenden droids. Een vervaagde Anakin plaatsen lijkt me voor Lucas niet zo lastig.

Dat is waar, maar ik wil de film zeker weten in zijn originele vorm kunnen kijken. Een film zegt iets over de periode waarin hij gemaakt is en de opkomende technologie moet niet klassieke films constant gaan veranderen. Als Lucas veranderingen gaat aanbrengen kijk ik niet meer naar de klassieker van lang geleden. Ik snap regisseurs wel die hun films aanpassen na een aantal jaar of bijna meteen omdat ze bij de release al een andere versie in hun hoofd hadden, zoals LOTR. In een Southpark aflevering wordt het goed in de zeik genomen, de: director's cut van de director's cut. Ik vind dus dat Star Wars in ieder geval in zijn eerste goede DVD release de originele versies moet bevatten.

Een film wordt na zoveel jaren en na zoveel jaren van vereren ook een beetje publiekelijk eigendom en dan vind ik dat je rekening moet houden met de wensen van de personen die mede Star Wars hebben gemaakt tot wat het nu is.

Wat betreft het ontbreken van de originele en de SE versies uit 1997 op DVD:
Gelukkig heb ik de LaserDisc EN de VHS versies nog :wink:

Wat ik persoonlijk jammer vind is t ontbreken van de 4 docu's die oa in de geweldige Executor box zitten.

Look at the bright side: EINDELIJK komen ze uit op DVD.
Dat is toch t meeste belangrijke?

En wat er gezegd wordt door oa StarFresh: daar moet ik me bij aansluiten. Maar goed, het is niet anders.

Nee, dit is Ian McDiarmid :wink:
In de originele ESB werd the Emperor gespeeld door een vrouw en was de stem die van Clive Revill. Dmv deze aanpassing is de contimuiteit hersteld: McDiarmid (met 6 lagen make-up) en ook de stem van McDiarmid.

Ik meende ook ergens gelezen te hebben dat Jabba in ANH (bij de Falcon) een aanpassing krijgt. Die zag er dan ook niet echt realistisch uit in de SE van '97.

Klopt, is een van de scenes die men zou willen aanpassen.
Hoewel Jabba natuurlijk niet leek op de Jabba uit RotJ, vond ik de kwaliteit niet tegenvallen.
Maar idd, t kan beter ja!

Zelf hoop ik dat ze de scene waarin Greedo nu als eerste schiet aanpassen zodat Solo weer als 1e zapt.

Ja. Ik moet zeggen dat het me nooit was opgevallen dat Greedo schoot in de SE. Pas toen ik er over las, heb ik het gezien.

Also this morning, I imagine by now many of you have seen the altered Return of the Jedi DVD screen shot posted yesterday over on Ain't it Cool News. While some sources are still hedging their bets... yes, we can confirm that this is authentic. It IS one of many changes that are being made to the original Star Wars films for the September 21st DVD release.

We've been saying for months now that there were going to be changes made to these films for DVD, and while many believed us, a number of Star Wars fans have e-mailed to say we must be on crack. Nevertheless, believe it or not, we know for a FACT that several more changes are being made to these films. Trust us on this - our contacts are in positions to know. Like it or not, the films we will get on DVD on 9/21 are NOT going to be the original theatrical versions and they're not going to be the 1997 special editions either. Even Lucasfilm's Steve Sansweet has confirmed this, saying at the recent WonderCon convention that the films contained on the discs would be the incarnations of the films "as George Lucas sees them today."
