'Saw' Horror Producer Dies at 42

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Gregg Hoffman, producer of the gory "Saw" horror films, died Sunday, Dec. 4 at the age of 42.
The filmmaker was suffering from neck pain and was admitted to Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital where Lions Gate Entertainment reports he died of natural causes. An autopsy is scheduled.

In the mid-'90s, Hoffman worked with Disney, where he rose to the position of senior vice president of production and produced "George of the Jungle."


He shifted to Evolution Entertainment in 2003 and caught an eight-minute clip about a serial killer, which he helped produce into the surprise hit thriller "Saw" (2004) directed by James Wan. The film, centered on a killer nicknamed Jigsaw who forces kidnapped victims to kill each other, earned $55.2 million domestically.

A year later, "Saw II" hit theaters to the tune of $85.7 million. Another sequel is also in the works. Hoffman was also working on "Crawlspace" at the time of his death.

He is survived by his wife Lucienne, two children; his mother and a sister.
