Paramount kiest voor HD DVD

Paramount Pictures brengt hun films voortaan exclusief uit op HD-DVD. Dat betekent dat ze Blu-ray laten vallen. Dit geldt echter niet voor de films van Spielberg. Dat betekent dus dat de strijd tussen HD DVD en Blu-ray nog lang zal voortduren. Lees het volgende persbericht van Viacom (bron: www.viacom.com):

(NYSE: VIA and VIA.B) and DreamWorks Animation SKG (NYSE: DWA), each announced today that they will exclusively support the next-generation HD DVD format on a worldwide basis. The exclusive HD DVD commitment will include all movies distributed by Paramount Pictures, DreamWorks Pictures, Paramount Vantage, Nickelodeon Movies and MTV Films, as well as movies from DreamWorks Animation, which are distributed exclusively by Paramount Home Entertainment.
The companies each said that the decision to distribute exclusively in the HD DVD format resulted from an extensive evaluation of current market offerings, which confirmed the clear benefits of HD DVD, particularly its market-ready technology and lower manufacturing costs. Uiteindelijk schieten ze (allemaal) in hun eigen voet. Want van de reeds zeer kleine potentiële HD-markt zijn er nog veel consumenten die ook nog eens afwachten om te zien voor welk formaat ze moeten kiezen. Zo gaat het natuurlijk nooit echt opschieten.

Wat uiteindelijk het nieuwe standaard gaat worden is nog altijd een grote vraag. Microsoft en enkele grote filmbedrijven staan volledig achter HD-DVD en Sony op zijn beurt met andere grote filmbedrijven achter Blu-Ray. Deze zet van Paramount maakt het alleen nog maar complexer.

Toch wel een ramp voor de consument. Leekde format war net over krijg je dit. Nu is er geen zicht meer op hoe lang het gaat duren. En de hd dvd spelers kunnen wel rap goedkoper worden, het duurt nu wel veel langer voor het een massamedium wordt en de schijfjes echt goedkoop worden. Verwacht zelf dat het nu in iederr geval langer een niche blijft, want om echt in te stappen als consument moet je of twee spelers koepen of een dure combospeler.

Laten we ook maar niet meer over BR vs HD DVD spreken, maar Sony vs Microsoft.

Goed nieuws. Ik ben idd een voorstander van HD-DVD. Ik walg van Sony. Sony heeft wel vaker "haar" format door de strot van de consument willen duwen. Sony was ook de laatste fabriekant die met MP3 ondersteining kwam.
Maar goed, ik denk dat beide formaten geen succes gaan worden. Ik blijf geloven in de combi van downloaden (niet illegaal) en holodisks. Holodisk biedt een veelvoud aan voordelen. HD-DVD/BR is nog te beperkt.

Wat is daar nu goed nieuws aan? Het interessert me geen donder wie de format war wint. Ik hoopte alleen dat het snel voorbij zou zijn (en daar leek het wel op). Nu zitten we nog een paar jaar langer met twee formats met alle nadelen van dien..... En als je een hekel hebt aan Sony omdat ze formats door je strot duwen, dan zou je nu ook moeten afhaken bij HD DVD want achter dit 'kunstje van Paramount' zit Microsoft en als er een bedrijf gespecialiseerd is in het door de strot duwen zijn zij het wel....

Hoewel een format war niet echt gunstig is voor de consument behalve dan dat maatschappijen elkaar de loef proberen af te steken door goedkoper materiaal of snel betere films op de markt te brengen, Vind ik dit toch niet erg aangezien ik inmiddels al aardig wat HD DVD's heb die ik graag wil kunnen blijven kijken.
Heb een half jaar geleden voor HD DVD gekozen vanwege de goedkope X-Box uitbreiding en de mogelijkheid HD te kijken via m'n VGA aansluiting op m'n TV (die heeft geen HDMI). Als Sony ook een VGA aansluiting had waarbij ik 1024x768 zou kunnen kiezen had ik 't PS3 ding misschien ook wel gekocht.
Microsoft of Sony. Beide vind ik ratten. Dat de format war nu voortduurt is 't wel weer leuk om deze ratten tegen elkaar te zien vechten inplaats van dat ze alleen mij bijten. Misschien alleen maar illusie, maar ignorance is bliss.

Thedigitalbits.com is wel erg Blu-ray gericht in hun berichtgeving. Op zich mag dat best maar is 't voor mij als site voor 'informatiewinning' eigenlijk waardeloos aangezien 't geen neutrale berichtgeving is maar een mening. "My Two Cents" krijgen ze niet meer.

Wat een onzin. Welk format heeft MS door ons strotje geduwt dan? En nou niet met Windows aankomen want dat is geen format. Maar zelfs met het draaien van Windows heb ik veel meer vrijheid bij het maken van mij keuzes. Meer dan bijvoorbeeld Apple waar je eigenlijk helemaal niets te kiezen cq uit te breiden hebt. Natuurlijk is Linux wat dat betreft beter/meer keuze mogelijkheden maar Linux is meer voor de PCgeek/nerd. Heb het een aantal malen geprobeerd maar tis een drama om alles een beetje fatsoenlijk te laten draaien (drivers enzo).

Over het door de strot duwen van formaten is Sony toch wel de koning in, MS heeft nog nooit iets op het media dragende gebied gedaan, tenzij je het over de WM formaten hebt, hierin heb je gelukkig binnen Windows gewoon de vrije hand.

Het blijft 'n feit dat spellen uitblijven door 'n slechte devkit console al jaar uit en telt nu 'n scala van 20 games? Zou ik idd ook pissig zijn als ik verder niets mee zou kunnen, gelukkig is het 'n next-gen speler (en zo denkt sony ook)... "iedereen" Blu-ray in huis, rest is bijzaak.

En ja je bent niet verplicht 'n HD DVD drive te kopen, doe je dit niet bespaar je jezelf er 150euro mee
