Ik kon nog geen topic over deze nieuw te produceren film vinden, dus bij deze.
Film gaat over het klassieke verhaal van Robin Hood, maar dan met een twist. The Sheriff of Nottingham (Russel Crowe) is namelijk a Good Guy! Hieronder meer:Russell Crowe Headed For Nottingham
A revisionist Robin Hood tale
After a fair old sized bidding war, it’s been announced this morning that Universal has won the rights to Nottingham, with Russell Crowe set to star. The spec script has been written by Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Voris, who are best known as the writing team behind TV series Sleeper Cell.
Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer is producing, which means that there’s a very good chance of Crowe re-teaming with either Ron Howard (who previously made A Beautiful Mind, and Cinderella Man together for Imagine) or Ridley Scott (who’ve just finished American Gangster for the company), provided either director takes an interest in the story.
According to Reiff, the idea is that “Robin Hood was less virtuous and the sheriff more noble than previously depicted.” Sounds great. “There’s also a love triangle between Robin Hood, Maid Marion and Nottingham’s sherrif.” Hmm – not so much. Back to the main drive of the plot: “He’s trying to do the right thing, but he’s up against Robin Hood, who’s becoming heroic while not necessarily acting in the nicest way.”
The deal is a fantastically well timed piece of news, as only a few days ago, they received word from U.S. cable network Showtime they would not be picking up Sleeper Cell for a third series. However, they must have known this deal was coming – New Line, Warner Bros., Sony, New Regency and DreamWorks were all interested in Nottingham, and some had high-calibur directors attached, like Bryan Singer and Sam Raimi.
Expect production to start later this year, after Crowe’s done shooting 3:10 To Yuma with Christian Bale for director James Mangold.Ik houd wel van een lekker Robin Hood verhaal... wat jullie...Scott And Crowe Together In Nottingham
Ridley and Russell vs Robin Hood
A few months back we reported that Russell Crowe was planning to star in Nottingham, a revisionist take on the legend of Robin Hood with the Sheriff of Nottingham as a good guy. Today comes the news that Crowe’s directorial BFF (that’s “best friend forever” for those of you over 30) Ridley Scott has signed on to direct the project.
This time around, the Sheriff of Nottingham is not so much with the calling off Christmas and cutting hearts out with spoons. Instead, he’s an honest, noble lawman working under a corrupt King (ah, so no revisionism for poor John then), caught in a love triangle with Maid Marion and Robin. So we guess they’re good guys too, but just caught on opposite sides of the law. The potential for tragedy is huge – think a Western in jollie olde Englande.
Shooting is due to start next year, with Scott still to lock American Gangster and already committed to filming Body of Lies first with Leonardo DiCaprio this autumn (won’t Leo’s BFF Marty be jealous?). The script for Nottinghamis by Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Voris, creators of the TV show Sleeper Cell – which perhaps means that they know a thing or two about seeing things from the other side.
So is this a good idea? Well, it sounds like it. Scott’s familiar with the time period, at least – Kingdom of Heaven was set around the same time, during the Crusades that drew King Richard away from England and left his good-for-nothing brother John in charge (still, if he hadn’t we wouldn’t have the Magna Carta and democracy’d be buggered, so it’s all for the best really). And this will mark the fourth time he’s worked with Crowe, after Gladiator, A Good Year and the forthcoming American Gangster. Let’s hope it’s more with the chopping off heads with two swords and less with the wine appreciation, eh?
