De actiefilm The Dark Knight is dinsdag door Nederlandse filmjournalisten uitgeroepen tot de beste bioscoopfilm van 2008. De tweede plaats is voor de thriller No Country for Old Men van de broers Joel en Ethan Coen. Op de derde plek staat de animatiefilm Wall-E.

In The Dark Knight neemt miljonair Bruce Wayne, die 's nachts als Batman de misdaad bestrijdt, het op tegen de demonische crimineel The Joker. De film van regisseur Christopher Nolan kreeg veel aandacht toen acteur Heath Ledger, die de schurkenrol speelt, plotseling overleed aan een overdosis medicijnen. De productie bracht wereldwijd meer dan een miljard dollar op.

De critici kozen Oorlogswinter van regisseur Martin Koolhoven als beste Nederlandse film van het jaar. De bioscoopbewerking van het bekende boek van Jan Terlouw verhaalt over de 14-jarige Michiel die samen met zijn familie probeert de hongerwinter van 1944 te overleven. De voormalige voorman van D66 baseerde het verhaal op zijn eigen oorlogservaringen.

Op de tweede plaats eindigt arthousefilm Calimucho van regisseuse Eugenie Jansen. Het verhaal over een klein familiecircus ontving op het Nederlands Filmfestival ook al de prijs van de Nederlandse filmpers. De derde plaats is voor de thriller TBS van regisseur Pieter Kuijpers.

Ik kan me op zich wel vinden in deze top 3

Van die golden globe nominaties is meer dan de helft van de films hier nog niet eens uit.... Verder vond ik In Bruges een vermakelijke film, maar die krijgt wel erg veel nominaties, zo speciaal was het ook allemaal wel weer niet. Verder jammer voor Robbert Downey Jr. dat ie het op moet nemen tegen The Joker anders had hij zeker een kans gemaakt. Leuk verder dat True Blood ook meteen al een behoorlijk aantal nominaties in de wacht sleept.

Van die golden globe nominaties is meer dan de helft van de films hier nog niet eens uit....

Mja, het is al een aantal jaren zo dat de studio's echt wachten tot het einde van het jaar om al die films waarvan ze denken dat ze Oscar-waardig zijn uit te brengen, waardoor ze hier nog niet te zien zijn tegen dat die beeldjes worden uitgereikt.

Bij de helft van die films heb ik ook zoiets van, zouden ze wel gemaakt worden als men er niet quasi zeker van was dat ze wel een aantal awards of minstens nominaties zullen krijgen? Vooral die biografie-films lijken me vaak louter gemaakt om een Oscar voor de hoofdrol in de wacht te slepen.

De Golden Globes worden al over een kleine 2 weken uitgereikt en nu ik de tijd heb genomen om heel wat genomineerde films te kijken ga ik eens een prognose doen. Vet is wie ik denk dat zal winnen, tussen haakjes de film of acteur die de award volgens mij het meest verdient.

The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, The Dark Knight and Frost/Nixon will be among the films competing for the top prize at the Producers Guild of America Awards.
Biopic Milk and Slumdog Millionaire were also nominated on Monday.
Meanwhile, Man on Wire, Standard Operating Procedure and Trouble in the Water will compete for the PGA's Best Documentary honour and Bolt, Kung Fu Panda and Wall-e earned nominations for Producer of the Year in Animated Motion Pictures.
Curb Your Enthusiasm, Entourage, The Office, 30 Rock and Weeds will compete for the Danny Thomas Producer of the Year in Episodic Television-Comedy and Boston Legal, Damages, Dexter, Lost and Mad Men were the Best Drama nominees.
24: Redemption, Bernard and Doris, John Adams, A Raisin in the Sun and Recount were nominated for the David L. Wolper Producer of the Year in Long-Form Television Award.
The gongs will be handed out at the Hollywood Palladium on 24 January.

Coincidentally, Bashir, which describes filmmaker Ari Folman's repressed memories of his days in the Israeli army during the 1982 Lebanon War, was honored on the same day that Israeli forces pushed into Gaza. Unlike other awards from critics groups, a selection by the NSFC is not regarded as an Oscar bellwether; the 63-member group and the Academy Awards voters rarely agree, and most Hollywood observers would probably concur that Bashir has little chance even of being nominated for a best-film Oscar. Miramax's Happy-Go-Lucky took the most Nsfc awards -- four -- with Mike Leigh taking two of them for best director and best screenplay and Sally Hawkins winning for best actress and Eddie Marsan, for best actor.

The PGA announced that Knight was one of five films nominated for its top award, the Darryl F. Zanuck Producer of the Year Award in Theatrical Motion Pictures, due to be presented on Jan. 24. The others are The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Frost/Nixon, Milk, and Slumdog Millionaire. The Guild's nominees often mirror those chosen by Oscar voters, and the winner usually takes the best-film Oscar.

Ik persoonlijk denk dat The Dark Knight serieus gaat stunten. Ik voorspel een best director, best supporting actor en een best picture nominatie. Ze kunnen die film echt niet negeren volgens mij, daarvoor is de hype te groot. En hij was gewoonweg de beste film van het jaar. Zelfs nu alle Oscar films zijn uitgekomen blijft deze nog altijd makkelijk rechtstaan.

Ik heb de meeste award-kandidaten ook gezien en een best picture en best director nominatie voor The Dark Knight zou absoluut niet misstaan. Of ze die verzilveren is natuurlijk iets anders.

Wat ik een absolute schande vind is hoe The Wrestler bij vele awardceremonies in de aanloop naar de Oscars volledig wordt overgeslagen ten gunste van veel mindere films.

The backwards-aging Benjamin Button, Batman and Iron Man are in, but Indiana Jones and James Bond are out as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences released the shortlist of seven films that will vie for the visual effects Oscar at the 81st Annual Academy Awards.

For the first time in its history, the list, announced Tuesday, includes a 3-D movie, "Journey to the Center of the Earth," Eric Brevig's live-action reworking of the Jules Verne classic.

The seven titles that will vie for one of three available nominations include year-end arrivals "Australia" and "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" as well as summer popcorn movies "Journey," "The Dark Knight," "Hellboy II: The Golden Army," "Iron Man" and "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor."

Eight other titles on December's list of 15 semifinalists failed to make the cut: "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian," "Cloverfield," "The Day the Earth Stood Still," "Hancock," "The Incredible Hulk," "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," "Quantum of Solace" and "The Spiderwick Chronicles."

On Jan. 15, members of the Academy's visual effects branch will view 15-minute excerpts from each of the seven shortlisted films at the category's annual bake-off. The "Journey" excerpt will screen in 3-D at the event at the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.

The nominations will be announced Jan. 22. The 81st Academy Awards are Feb. 22 at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland.

Superhero films are proving to be more than just popcorn escapism this movie awards season.

"The Dark Knight" earned a nomination Monday for the Producers Guild of America's top prize. And on Tuesday, "Iron Man," 2008's other superhero box office champ, received a nomination for the USC Libraries 21st Annual Scripter Award.

The award honors both the author and screenwriter of the year's best book-to-film adaptation celebrating, according to USC, "the written word, creative collaboration and the profound results of transforming one artistic medium into another."


Screenwriters Mark Fergus & Hawk Ostby and Art Marcum & Matt Holloway were nominated for "Iron Man" based on the comic book series authored by Stan Lee and Don Heck.

The other four finalists for the Scripter are:

*Screenwriter Eric Roth, who shares story credit with Robin Swicord, for "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," based on the short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald

*Screenwriter David Hare and author Bernhard Schlink for "The Reader"

*Screenwriter Justin Haythe for "Revolutionary Road," based on the novel by Richard Yates

*Vikas Swarup, author of "Q&A," adapted for the screen as "Slumdog Millionaire" by screenwriter Simon Beaufoy.

Fergus and Ostby won the Scripter two years ago for "Children of Men" and Hare received the honor six years ago for "The Hours."

Last year's winners were Joel and Ethan Coen and novelist Cormac McCarthy for "No Country for Old Men." The Coens went on to win the Oscar for screenplay adaptation.

The selection committee chose the five finalists from a field of 58 eligible films. Though the committee, including chair Naomi Foner, Lawrence Kasdan and Tony Kushner, will select the winner on Friday.

But for the first time in the awards history, the winner will be announced on the evening of the gala awards' ceremony Jan. 30 at the University of Southern California's Edward L. Doheny Jr. Memorial Library.

Ik zat er redelijk naast met mijn pronostiek, al ben ik wel blij dat veel van mijn favorieten uiteindelijk gewonnen hebben Wel jammer dat de enige non-comedy in de categorie comedy/musical met de award naar huis gaat. Voor het overige is Slumdog Millionaire de grote winnaar en mag ook Kate Winslet tevreden zijn (al is het vooral een Oscar waar ze op aast).

Ik ben blij voor Colin Farrell.
Hij heeft veel slechte keuzen gemaakt [Miami Vice,Alexander,Daredevil] maar hij kan heel sterk zijn [Tigerland,Phonebooth,intermission]....
Ik vond In Bruges een leuke film maar door Farrell en Gleason was het een hele leuke film geworden,

Mij hoor je niet klagen als dat nog eens gebeurt The Dark Knight heeft ook 9 nominaties, maar komt niet voor in de belangrijkste categorieën.
