Confirmation has come in that the next installment in the Transformers Franchise will indeed be released in 3D, and is therefore tentatively titled Transformers 3D (2011).
The confirmation comes via a article in USA Today by Anthony Breznican, in which Michael Bay confirms that the film will be in 3D, and officially announces the main villain of Transformers 3D.
"I'll take some of the criticism," Director Michael Bay states in regards to Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, adding that "It was very hard to put (the sequel) together that quickly after the writers' strike (of 2007-08)."
Below are the main points from article, in which Michael Bay announces the decision to release the latest Transformers movie in 3D, and states that Shockwave will serve as the main villain in the new 2011 film.
First, Bay states, "One thing we're getting rid of is what I call the dorky comedy," further adding that the controversial "Twins" are "basically gone," although for comic relief, John Turturro will return.
The article further announces Transformers 3D's main villain as "Shockwave, the robot cyclops-turned-laser-cannon, who became dictator of their home world of Cybertron after the other Autobots and Decepticons journeyed to Earth."
While Director Michael Bay confirms that in 2011 Transformers will be seen in 3D at movie theater, there is no word on whether the latest film in the series will be filmed in 3D, or converted in post-production.
In regards to where the Transformers Movie Franchise will go from here, Bay is quoted saying, "As a trilogy, it really ends," he says. "It could be rebooted again, but I think it has a really killer ending."
When asked about Transformers 2's plot in comparison to the upcoming Transformers 3D film, Bay answers, "This one really builds to a final crescendo. It's not three multiple endings,".
The film's plot "delves into the space race between the U.S.S.R. and the USA, suggesting there was a hidden Transformers role in it all that remains one of the planet's most dangerous secrets." Bay adds that, "The movie is more of a mystery," "It ties in what we know as history growing up as kids with what
really happened."
Transformers 3D is set to hit theaters everywhere on July 1st, 2011, directed by Michael Bay and starring Shia Labeouf.
