    Standaard Back to the Future: Ultimate Trilogy 4K

    Op 20 oktober 2020 verschijnt in de Verenigde Staten de Back to the Future Trilogy voor het eerst op 4K Ultra HD.

    Weet iemand het verschil in verpakking van de NL versie met de UK (digipack)? Ik ben nog aan het twijfelen of ik de UK of NL versie wil.

    De NL versie bevat de gebruikelijke zwarte plastic dozen, dus in totaal 3 dozen. 1 doos per film waarbij in deel 3 ook de bonusdisc zit. Was ook aan het twijfelen tussen de UK en NL versie omdat ik wist dat de UK versie een digipack is. Dus was blij verrast toen de NL versie arriveerde.

    Dank voor de info. Dat wou ik ook graag weten. Wel vreemd weer dat in de VS, Engeland en de rest van Europa verschillende verpakkingen gebruikt worden. Kan dat niet helemaal volgen.

    Zojuist deel 1 van de trilogie in 4K gezien. Het beeld ziet er over het algemeen zeer goed uit, met name in de scènes overdag zie je een duidelijke verbetering t.o.v. de 'oude' Blu-ray. Vooral beeldscherpte, contrast en kleuren zijn beter en strakker. De toepassing van Wide Color Gamut is over het algemeen netjes gedaan, zonder overdreven nadruk op bepaalde kleuren. Alleen huidtinten neigen in bepaalde scènes nog wel eens naar te veel oranje. In donkere scènes vind ik de UHD-uitgave wat tegenvallen. Het beeld is dan bij vlagen erg donker, contrastarm en vlak, alsof ze daar HDR zijn vergeten toe te passen, een manco dat je wel vaker tegenkomt in recensies van UHD-uitgaven. Ben benieuwd hoe deel 2 scoort op dat gebied.

Als ik het goed lees, dan is deze uitgave gewoon een stuk natuurlijker en prettiger om te aanschouwen? Waren er dingen waardoor je werd afgeleid?

    Naar mijn idee hadden de donkere scènes een stuk beter gekund, tenminste dat verwacht ik van HDR met zijn grotere dynamische bereik. Contrast en detaillering in de donkere scènes vond ik maar matig, maar misschien ligt dat gewoon aan het bronmateriaal.Ik had af en toe de neiging om op mijn UHD-speler het dynamisch bereik wat aan te passen (te vergroten), maar het liefst blijf ik daarvan af. Ook de scherpte laat in die scènes wat te wensen over. Maar desondanks al is deze UHD-uitgave een duidelijk verbetering t.o.v. de oorspronkelijke Blu-ray. De UHD is naast HDR10 ook van HDR10+ voorzien en mijn UHD-speler kan dat verwerken, maar ik weet niet of mijn Samsung TV dat kan.

    Dat is vaak het nadeel van HDR10 ten opzichte van HDR10+ en Dolby Vision. Bij HDR10 wordt één HDR-instelling voor alle content gebruikt, terwijl metadata wordt toegewezen aan elk frame en dus donkere en lichtere scenes en daardoor verbetering in dat opzicht biedt. Dat gezegd hebbende vond ik het reuze meevallen qua donkere scenes. Gisteren deel 1 gekeken en het was me niet direct opgevallen als storend.
