Battle Royale II

Ik heb hier op het forum er nog niemand over gehoord en zelf wist ik er ook niks van maar er komt een vervolg op Battle Royale.



Synopsis:
"Set one year after BR1, the two surviving students from the previous year's bloodbath, Shuya Nanahara (Fujiwara) and Noriko Nakagawa (Aki Maeda) return home, their lives permanently scarred by the terrifying experiences of BR1. Around them, the Battle Royale act continues and another class is kidnapped and placed in a Battle Royale. After the previous incidents, the public becomes aware of what the Japanese government is doing to their children and riots break out, some people violently attacking Japanese politicians in the street. Democracy no longer exists in this Japan where the country is dictated by the Japanese military who came away from World War II victorious alongside Germany. The rioters are violently dealt with and their children are thrown in to Battle Royale along with the randomly selected tenth grade class of boys and girls.

The Battle Royale Second Movie is based on the Koshun Takami novel which follows on from the first novel, however unlike the novel features the two main characters returning to Battle Royale. In an act of aggression and in order to take revenge on the adults, Nanahara attempts to attack Japanese Parliament with little support from Nakagawa, who, after being traumatized by her experience in the previous Battle Royale, is indifferent to Nanahara's decision. Nanahara's plans to attack the government are soon uncovered and Nanahara is classified as a global terrorist and is stamped as being involved with Afghanistan. Resultantly, the United States Military steps in along with the assistances of a new team of students to fight Nanahara, in and outside of the BR Island battlefield.

De film is nog in productie en schijnt deze zomer in Japan uit te komen.
Als ik dit zo lees lijkt het mij best een leuk vervolg te worden en zeker na dat ik dit ergens las: 'Compared to Battle Royale, the sequel will have more violence...'

Hmm ben erg benieuwd.. hoop wel dat ze het een compleet ander verhaal gaan maken en niet een standaard vervolg.. maar ik heb er wel vertrouwen in dat dat gebeurt..

Een vervolg maken op een origineel uitgangspunt lijkt me niet de manier om een originele film te maken.

Trailer ziet er goed uit!. Wel weer wat herkenning: eerste dode in het klaslokaal bij aankomst. Eerste hoofd eraf geblazen: idem. Hoop dat de rest origineler is. Lijkt mij wel spectaculair zo'n vervolg. Bovenstaande verhaal is in ieder geval interessant genoeg (kon van de trailer uiteraard weinig volgen zo zonder subs ). De instortende torens op het eind waren wel spectaculair.

Las op de website dat de regisseur er in ieder geval in gebleven is (hij was natuurlijk bij de eerste film op leeftijd, dat was toen al zijn 60ste film, tenminste dat meende ik in de documentaire zo'n 10x voorbij horen komen ). Maar zijn zoon had het waardig afgemaakt.

5 juli in de bios: eind van het jaar op DVD? Hoop wel weer op zo'n mooie tinbox wordt (en op meer geluk met de filmframe, die ik nu heb is echt waardeloos m.a.w.: te koop gezocht BR tin box met eerste klas filmframe ).

Kreeg een mailtje van HKFlix dat BR II op DVD uit was. Zag ook dat hij op het Rotterdams Filmfestival draaide... Zocht echter even op de IMDB zag een verassend resultaat:

Ten eerste kreeg hij een 5.0 qua score en ten tweede was er niet misselijk commentaar in de filmwaardering:

What a bad, bad, BAD movie. Barely an acceptable over-the-top action movie, worst that it thinks it's more than that. Erg, taking pop shots at the U.S. like some simpleton without any real-world understanding is perfectly okay. I don't mind people who get their "information" off the Internet making political statements, that's the price of living in our beloved "Information Age".

But oh dear, is BR2 bad. And I mean BAD. Coming off the first film, you'd think there would be more substance, not this terrible film where the action breaks so characters can have their "Big Moment" where they get to put to use all those groovy techniques they learned in drama class. Puh-leeze. I've seen better acting and better writing in a Junior High School play.

Ik vond de trailer nog wel zeer prikkelend en verbaas mij dus over deze kritiek. Met andere woorden wie heeft de film al gezien en wil er ook commentaar op leveren. Is hij echt ZO slecht???

Voor dat geld laat ik hem niet liggen, ik heb er ook over gelezen dat deze
tegenvalt.

Deel 1 was gewoon super, deel 2 zal dat wel niet zijn, maar ik
wel hem toch zien. En als ik nog veel langer wacht tot hij bij de
plaatselijke videotheek ligt waar ik hem kan huren voor 3.50 euro. Wil ik
best 2.50 euro meer betalen voor een 2 disc versie met DTS en extra's

Battle Royale 2 DVD Mini Review

What a laughable movie! Why didn't Fukasaku Kinji teach his son how to make a movie? More than 80 years of life he lived, and he couldn't teach his son how to make a movie. This movie is pretty fair to bad to laughable. It starts out pretty promising and interesting, but once Saving Private Ryo starts, the movie falls apart there and becomes pretty boring even with all the violence...The only cool aspects in this movie that could have made the movie good but weren't developed at all were:
1. The teaming up of two students and if one dies, the other teammate's collar explodes too... This could have been great stuff if we cared about the students as we did in the first movie. In this movie, those collars are funny especially during the D-Day landing on the shore scene, where people are blowing up left and right if not by the Wild Seven's gunfire then by the exploding collars. It's some funny shit!
2. Kitano's daughter seeking revenge... She kicks ass which is cool, but she should have had more screen time and more character development instead of that pointless blond dude character.
3. the pro-terrorism, post-911, hiding in Afghanistan plot... It's cool that this story had the balls to challenge America, Bush, and 911 conspiracies, and maybe showing that Bin Laden was doing a good deed, but it wasn't laid out properly in the movie and just seemed forced and strange. It is implied that the Wild Seven leader, the survivor guy from the first movie, is an Osama Bin Laden character. I understand that the director was trying to make a movie that critisizes the power, evilness, and corruptness of the USA, but it just wasn't carried out properly to connect those ideas together.

The movie is sort of like what Lethal Weapon 4, Star Wars prequels, or Charlie's Angels 2 was to their predecessors, just a forced parody-of-itself sequel...Unlike recent good-to-fair sequeled movies (such as Matrix sequels, X-Men 2, Blade 2, Lord of the Rings sequels), this movie definitely fits into the joke-of-a-sequel catagory which was common in the 1990s. The movie isn't that bad if one watches this movie as a comedy...Battle Royale 2 gets 6.5 points out of 10!!!

The Universe Region 3 DVD of BATTLE ROYALE 2 is pretty good. Ten times better than the HK DVD release of the first Battle Royale DVD.
The anamorphic video quality is very good - a similar video quality to the Tartan NTSC version of the first Battle Royale. It's a bit soft and grey during dark scenes, but overall it's a pretty good DVD transfer...The video gets 8 out of 10 points!!!
The DTS and DD 5.1 are pretty good too. Although it's got very active surround sound, it's not a spectacular mix in which gun shots sound muffled and not so much bass. It should have been a lot louder and powerful considering all the gun battle scenes in this movie... The audio gets 8 out of 10 points!!!
The subtitles are excellent and the extras are decent - with the usual amount of generic extras.

So, if you wanna see an overacted, sloppy comedy sequel to an amazing movie, go see BATTLE ROYALE 2!

Jammer, vond de trailer wel potentie hebben. Als ik zo lees: mooie DVD uitgaven van een slechte film. Denk niet dat ik hem dan aanschaf. Vind €6,- dan zelfs nog te veel! Want de aanschaf is op zich niet zo erg, maar hoe kom je er weer vanaf...

Ik heb de film gezien op het Rotterdams Film Festival en de film viel me in zijn geheel erg tegen. Het eerste gedeelte is nog een goede herhalingsoefening en zeker nog aan te raden voor liefhebbers van deel 1. Vooral meer van hetzelfde, met dit keer Riki Takeuchi ipv Takeshi Kitano, die in een klein rolletje nog wel even langskomt.

Maar halfverwege slaat de film om en wordt de film een groot anti-Amerika statement. Tenenkrommende speeches leiden af van de actie, maar irriteren vooral vanwege de simplistische politieke boodschap die wordt meegegeven alsmede de drammerige toon waarop. Een gebrek aan kennis van zaken en een naief, eenzijdig wereldbeeld doen verder afbreuk aan de intelligentie die in deel 1 was te vinden.

De film duurt vervolgens nog behoorlijk lang en enige symphatie voor welk personage dan ook is inmiddels geheel verdwenen.

Battle Royale II zal vanaf 04-03-2004 in de Nederlandse bioscopen te zien zijn (Bron: Filmladder). Persoonlijk vond ik deel 1 schokkend maar wel goed. De scenes waar ze ruzie krijgen en dat uiteindelijk resulteerd in een vuurgevecht zijn intens en bijzonder goed geacteerd.
Natuurlijk snapt iedereen dat een vervolg op zo'n 'cultfilm' nooit aan het orrigineel kan tippen (zie ook: The Blair Witch Project). Toch ga ik 'm zien, het genre blijft leuk!

ik vond hem zeerzeker niet slecht. het is ff doorbijten omdat er op gegeven moment veel veel dialogen inzitten en weinig (inter)actie, maar overall vind ik de film toch een 6.7 krijgen. De actie is goed uitgevoerd en schokkend in beeld gebracht. Echter verbaasde me nog geheel dat er in deze film wel een verhaal zit , Dat had ik in eerste instantie ook niet verwacht. Ik heb hem al een tijdje in huis.

ik moet jullie alleen teleurstellen dat ik BR deel 1 nog niet heb gezien. maar die schijnt nog vele malen beter te zijn . Binnenkort maar de nieuwe BR DTS release kopen

Tis wel een leuke actie knaller, maar er zitten enkele momenten in dat je bijna in slaap valt.. erg jammer, als ook het linkse boodschap die bij mij niet te waarderen viel, en dan het dubieuze einde... maar toch leuk voor 2 uurtjes vermaak en daarna vergeten!!


ps. De ijzersterke rol van de Leraar uit het 1ste deel wordt hier overgenomen door een nieuwe leraar, die er naar mijn smaak helemaal niks van bakt :s
