Twee Nederlandse kanshebbers

De film Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri van regisseur Martin McDonagh won onlangs 4 Golden Globes, waaronder die voor Beste Film. Vandaag werd bekend dat deze film is genomineerd voor 7 Oscars, waaronder wederom voor Beste Film. Grote concurrentie voor Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri komt van Guillermo Del Toro's The Shape of Water met 13 nominaties en Dunkirk van Christopher Nolan met 8 nominaties. Meryl Streep gaat met haar nominatie voor The Post op voor haar vierde Oscar, waarmee ze samen met Katherine Hepburn recordhoudster zou worden. Streep is dit jaar voor de 21e keer genomineerd, waarmee ze recordhoudster is. Daniel Day-Lewis gaat voor zijn rol in Phantom Thread met zijn zesde nominatie op voor zijn vierde (en mogelijk laatste?) Oscar. Meest opvallende nominaties is misschien wel voor Christopher Plummer voor All the Money in the World. Na de aantijgingen tegen Kevin Spacey werd diens rol in deze film van Ridley Scott op het laatste moment overgenomen door Plummer. Met het nodige succes, blijkt wel.
Er zijn dit jaar twee Nederlanders genomineerd voor een Oscar, een ongekende luxe. Cameraman Hoyte van Hoytema ontving een nominatie voor zijn prachtige camerawerk voor Dunkirk en de Nederlandse Special Make-up Artist Arjen Tuiten kreeg een nominatie voor zijn werk voor Wonder. Tuiten werkte eerder al mee aan onder meer Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines en El laberinto del fauno.

Op 4 maart wordt tijdens het gala van de 90e Oscars in het Dolby Theatre in Hollywood bekend gemaakt wie een gouden beeldje heeft gewonnen. De Nederlandse zender Net5 zal in de nacht van 4 op 5 maart de Oscarceremonie lie uitzenden.
