Verkrijgbaar op DVD (meer dan 210’) vanaf 14 juni 2004

Vanaf 14 juni is een bijzondere DVD verkrijgbaar met korte films.
CINEMA16: EUROPEAN SHORT FILMS toont een fascinerende colllectie korte films met o.a. shorts uit de beginperiode van enkele van de grootste filmregisseurs van Europa en prijswinnende korte films van nieuwe grensverleggende Europese filmmakers.
Een recensie-exemplaar kan men via de gebruikelijke wijze met bijgaand aanvraagformulier, per e-mail, fax of telefonisch bij MVSP opvragen.
Nu reeds is een promo copy beschikbaar, die echter niet compleet is. Wel kunnen we een exemplaar van de eerder uitgebrachte CINEMA 16: BRITISH SHORT FILMS meesturen (nog steeds verkrijgbaar via de website www.cinema16.org) om een goed beeld te krijgen van de presentatie.

Op de DVD zijn bijeengebracht:
Nooit eerder vertoond werk van Lars Von Trier (“Dogville”) en Krzysztof Kieslowski (“Three Colours Trilogy”); korte films uit de beginperiode van Jean-Luc Godard (“A Bout de Souffle”), Jan Kounen (“Dobermann”), Tom Tykwer (“Run Lola Run”), Peter Mullan (“The Magdalene Sisters”), Javier Fesser (“Mortadelo and Filemon”), en Roy Andersson (“Songs from the Second Floor”); prijswinnende films zoals Anders Thomas Jensen’s Oscar winnaar “Election Night”, Juan Solanas’ Cannes Jury Prijs winnaar “The Man Without a Head”, Chris Morris’s BAFTA winnaar “My Wrongs” en Virgil Widrich’s voor een Oscar genomineerde “Copy Shop”; als ook “Le Batteur du Boléro” van Patrice Leconte, “Bara Prata Lite” van Lukas Moodysson, “Il giorno della prima di close up” van Nanni Moretti en de klassieker “Jabberwocky” van Jan Svankmajer.

Al deze films zijn voorzien van commentaar, vaak door de regisseurs zelf, wat een
bijzondere kijk geeft op de manier waarop de korte film tot stand is gekomen.

Met meer dan drieëneenhalf uur aan films en commentaar (de films kan men mét en zonder commentaar bekijken) is CINEMA16: EUROPEAN SHORT FILMS een prachtige DVD voor iedere filmliefhebber.

Luke Morris, the award-winning producer who created the project said: “Cinema16 is an attempt to raise the profile of short films, which have been integral to the careers of so many great directors – from Jean-Luc Godard to David Lynch to Ridley Scott. Cinema16 gives the next generation of film-makers inspiration and access to these fantastic films that are otherwise so difficult to see.

The British edition proved what many had doubted – that there’s a big audience for these kinds of films, which can be every bit as interesting and entertaining as features, and that there’s an appetite for something different. Producing a European collection was the obvious next step given the wealth of amazing films out there. I’m just pleased that this release is supported by so many of Europe’s most exciting filmmakers.”

Luke Morris\' short film also was selected for Kodak\'s European Short Film Showcase at Cannes, part of Kodak\'s on-going activities to give exposure to new talent in its Worldwide Student and Emerging Filmmakers\' Program.
