Op maandag 11 augustus is Robin Williams overleden. De 63-jarige acteur is levenloos aangetroffen in zijn huis in Tiburon, California. De doodsoorzaak wordt gezien als zelfmoord. Williams was de laatste tijd depressief. Hij had zich recentelijk zelfs aangemeld bij een afkickkliniek voor een 12-stappen programma i.v.m. met zijn drugsgebruik.
Robin Williams was een geliefd acteur en heeft in talloze films gespeeld waarin hij menig filmliefhebber deed schateren van het lachen of deed huilen van emotie. In 1997 won Robin Williams de Oscar voor ‘Best Supporting Actor’ met zijn rol in Good Will Hunting. Daarvoor maakte hij veel indruk met rollen in Dead Poets Society, Mrs. Doubtfire en Jumanji.
