Ugh...een verhaal over autootjes....gadverr. En dan ook nog met Christian Bale. Verdorie.....kom op Michael Mann....kies toch betere projecten met andere acteurs.
Ik blijf toch hopen op weer een echte klapper van Mann maar de kansen worden op deze manier steeds kleiner.

Je kan beter zeggen....wat is de laatst echt goede? Voor mij was dat Collateral uit 2004....11 jaar geleden!. Blackhat was trouwens wel vermakelijk maar niet een topper te noemen. Ik was dan ook niet echt gecharmeerd van Chris Hemsworth.

Nee, daar ben ik het absoluut niet mee eens. Je vergeet nu ook gewoon Miami Vice en Public Enemies. Over de hoofdrolspeler en het plot is veel te zeggen maar de bijzondere fotografie maakt Blackhat toch weer tot een speciale film.

Michael Mann over Ferrari: " [I]It's an opera, it's a family drama, a tragedy, filled with wry humor. It's a racing film, but it's not a movie about car racing. It's a movie about this guy's life and his passion. ... ... The film is about life, danger, sex, racing, and volcanic temperament, throughout.''

[/I]En waarschijnlijk naar zoveel films digitaal te schieten gaat hij deze waarschijnlijk weer op film schieten. Interessante keuze.

Onder het interview wordt ook een reactie gepost waar ik het zeker wel mee eens ben:

...Miami Vice, the movie, has an oddly mesmerising quality

Collateral vind ik zijn laatste echt evenwichtige film, in Public Enemies vond ik het karakter van Bale niet echt lekker naar voren komen en Depp vond ik teveel zoeken naar hoe hij overkwam als Dillinger. Daarnaast vond ik dat er in PE teveel gezocht werd naar authenticiteit (letterlijk gesproken teksten, gebeurtenissen, locaties ed). Miami Vice heeft erg geleden onder de sterallures van Jamie Foxx (hij kreeg een Oscar tijdens de productie en wilde meteen een salarisverhoging en weigerde buiten de US te gaan werken zodat het einde opnieuw gemaakt moest worden) waardoor het toch een andere film is geworden. Maar toch blijft die wel iets hebben, wat meer dan PE IMO. Je ziet in Collateral dat Cruise er echt strak inzit, en Foxx had nog wat bewijsdrang en acteerde gewoon goed. Dat werkte goed samen waardoor die film echt compleet is geslaagd. Tenminste, vind ik dan.
Blackhat had zeker bijzondere cinematografie, maar het verhaal was wel erg dun. Toch blijft het wel een leuke actioner.

Ik vergeet Miami Vice en Public Enemies niet, ik vind ze gewoon minder.....:-P

Het onderwerp van Ferrari spreekt me helaas niet aan. Geef mij maar een goede misdaadfilm of een film zoals The Insider. Het liefst met duistere nachtelijke steden die Mann zo prachtig in beeld kan brengen.

Op zich ben ik al blij dat als de beste man weer een film regisseert. Ik kan me wel vinden in de gedachte dat Collateral zijn laatste echt goede film was.
Blackhat begon veelbelovend, maar naarmate de film vorderde werd de cinematografie steeds mooier, maar de film steeds minder. Met het einde als absolute dieptepunt. Public Enemy (vond ik erg 'nep' overkomen, geen moment had ik het idee dat ik niet naar sets zat te kijken. Depp hielp ook niet...) en Miami Vice (enorme irritante Farrell en Foxx) had ik zelfs onvoldoendes gegeven.

En dan nog: ik ben toch wel benieuwd naar zijn nieuwste.

Hugh Jackman May Replace Christian Bale in Michael Mann’s ‘Ferrari’

Following a huge weekend at the box-office with Logan, Hugh Jackman is in talks for the lead role in Michael Mann‘s Enzo Ferrari biopic. The actor would replace Christian Bale, who exited Ferrari a year ago over weight gain concerns. If a deal is struck, then Jackman will get to work with actress Noomi Rapace (The Drop) on Mann’s film.

Deadline reports there have been some discussions about Jackman starring in the film for a few months now, but those talks have recently grown more serious. While Mann was initially working towards 2016 start date, production got pushed back and may get started next summer with Jackman possibly in the lead role.
The Logan star joins a group of great actors, including Robert De Niro, attracted to playing the founder of Ferrari. Back in 2004, Al Pacino was set to play the driver and businessman for director Sydney Pollack, but that iteration of Ferrari never came to fruition before Pollack’s passing in 2008. The biopic, based on Brock Yates’ book “Enzo Ferrari: The Man, the Cars, the Races,” is now Mann’s combination of two scripts written by Troy Kennedy Martin (The Italian Job) and David Rayfield (Out of Africa).
According to Deadline, Mann focuses heavily on the relationship between Ferrari and his estranged wife Laura, who were legally married until her death in 1978. The story takes place in 1957, which is a year after their 24-year-old son, Alfredo, died from muscular dystrophy. It was also the year of the tragic Mille Miglia race. When Alfonso de Portago’s 4.0-litre Ferrari 335S blew a tire, the crash killed him, his co-driver, and nine spectators, including five children. Enzo Ferrari got charged with manslaughter, but the prosecution was dismissed in 1961. In ’57, he faced failure and death along with all of his success.
For a long time, Mann has been interested in Ferrari’s story. At one point, he was going to direct another project, Go Like Hell, about Ferrari and his rivalry with Henry Ford II, based on A.J. Baime’s “Go Like Hell: Ford, Ferrari, and Their Battle for Speed and Glory at Le Mans.” In 2008, he even directed a Ferrari commercial, which was two years after he had Sonny and Crocket cruising around in one of their beautiful cars in Miami Vice. Let’s hope he can get Jackman behind the wheel of one next summer because Ferrari could be a great, dramatic role for the actor. Whenever he plays ambitious, obsessive, or extremely flawed characters, we tend to see his best work.

Revealed as a hot-tempered megalomaniac given to loud belching and countless amorous conquests, Ferrari fathered an illegitimate child and led a shadowy second life as a respite from the “simmering hatred” of his marriage. He portrayed himself as a loyal “motorized knight-errant,” defending Italy’s national honor, but in Yates’s esimate he was interested solely in winning races and sometimes pushed his drivers to dangerous extremes. Yates deftly records the carnage of major races, business wheeling and dealing, and the political dimensions of motor racing from the pre-WW II Rome-Berlin Axis to today’s ribbon-waving nationalism.
