'Amazing Stories' finally comes to DVD!!! The wait is over! Rabid Spielberg fanatics like myself have certainly been waiting and waiting, and oh yeah, waiting for Universal Studios Home Entertainment and Amblin Entertainment to finally release to DVD one of the remaining major holdouts in Spielberg's filmography with the 1985-1987 television series "Amazing Stories." If getting "Munich" in your home this May 9 wasn't thrilling enough for you, fans will now be able to own the Spielberg directed "Ghost Train" and "The Mission," plus 22 other episodes from the Spielberg produced "Amazing Stories" anthology this July 18. The premiere season (of two seasons total) will be released in a four-disc set with over 10 hours of content including the season's 24 episodes, plus deleted scenes from 12 of the lot. (Unfortunately, neither of Spielberg's episodes as director will feature deleted content.) If you only plan on buying one of the two seasons from the "Amazing Stories" series, Season 1 is the one to own for Spielberg fans, since it includes both of Spielberg's only directorial work for the series, plus the majority of stories for Season 1 were written by Spielberg personally. The episodes for the season include: Ghost Train The Main Attraction Alamo Jobe Mummy, Daddy The Mission The Amazing Falsworth Fine Tuning Mr. Magic Guilt Trip Remote Control Man Santa '85 Vanessa in the Garden The Sitter No Day at the Beach One for the Road Gather Ye Acorns Boo! Dorothy and Ben Mirror, Mirror Secret Cinema Hell Toupee The Doll One for the Books Grandpa's Ghost While not all of the episodes were a success, there are certainly some notable short films in this list. Besides "Ghost Train" and "The Mission," the set also includes perennial favorites like "Mummy, Daddy" and "Santa '85" and episodes by legendary filmmakers like Clint Eastwood ("Vanessa in the Garden"), Joe Dante ("Boo!") and Martin Scorsese ("Mirror, Mirror"). As "Amazing Stories" was filmed for television, the video will be presented full frame (1.33:1), but most impressively, the soundtracks will be in English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround sound! The discs also include English SDH and Spanish subtitles. The entire package has a suggested retail price of $49.98. Below, you'll see the packaging and a couple of DVD menus for the set courtesy of Universal Studios Home Entertainment.
