STAR WARS originele versies op DVD!

Volgens The Digital Bits komt eind dit jaar de originele Star Wars trilogie uit op DVD in onbewerkte theatrale versie, zoals destijds gereleased en dus zonder digitale bewerkingen. Het zou telkens om een 2-disc versie gaan met de 2004-versie op de eerste disc en de oorspronkelijke versie in stereo surround 2.0 op de tweede disc. Het betreft hier een gelimiteerde uitgave van één maand. Niettegenstaande deze aankondiging voorlopig enkel voor de States is gemaakt is het heel waarschijnlijk dat Fox deze release wereldwijd maken zal.

We wanted to check in here with a quick update this evening, to give you a look at the cover artwork for the forthcoming Star Wars: Limited Edition DVDs due on 9/12, which will each contain both the original theatrical edition and more recent "2004 DVD edition" of the individual films. The art was released by Lucasfilm on their Star Wars.com site earlier this afternoon...

One thing that's kind of cool about this new cover artwork, as you may already be able to tell, is that while it's done in photo montage style, it's designed to look like some of the original painted poster art images from back in the day. Here they are for comparison...

Anyway, we suspect that a lot of people will simply replace the movie DVDs in their existing Star Wars Trilogy box sets with these new 2-disc sets. Of course, purchasing these new discs means buying a second copy of the 2004 editions just to get the previously unreleased theatrical versions. As far as we know, the 2004 discs in these new sets will be identical to the copies you already own, except that perhaps they'll have new art printed on the discs themselves (the extras - basically just the commentary tracks - are the same).

Op imdb werd gezegd dat de originele versies die als extra op de nieuwe uitgaves zullen staan, ports zullen zijn van de laserdisc uitgaves uit de jaren '90... het zullen dus fullscreen versies zijn... Het ziet er dus naar uit dat we toch nog moeten zullen wachten op een degelijke uitgave van de originele versies van de oude trilogie...
